Top 4 Common VPN Myths That You Should Not BelieveA virtual private network (VPN) is a tool that allows any internet user to access the internet remotely. VPNs help to protect your online privacy, to access restricted sites, and avoid bandwidth throttling. There is a lot of misconception when it comes to the use of a VPN tool when surfing the internet. So here is a list of common VPN myths going around. Check them out.

You Are Anonymous On the Internet

Anonymity refers to a person not being named or identified. You should know that when you are accessing the internet, you are not anonymous, even if you are using a privacy tool or VPN. Because there is that one service that at least has some information used to differentiate its users. This information may not be directly used to reveal the user, but it can be connected with other information to disclose an individual.

Using a VPN does not make you anonymous, but it enhances your security and privacy online. In simple terms, a VPN is the same thing as your house curtains. They hide things happening inside your house, but the house address is public. So, a VPN enhances your privacy.

VPNs Are For Tech Gurus

You might find it daunting to deal with a VPN. Especially if you don’t know anything about it, such as what it stands for, how it works, and so on.

But in the real sense, using a VPN is not hard. Today, most VPNs come with an intuitive app that will take care of everything. You only need to click on a button to switch it on. Some will even connect you automatically to the server available.

Use of VPN is illegal

So, is using a VPN legal ? Well, what you need to understand is that even though criminals use VPN to do unlawful things, the act of using a VPN is not illegal. The fact is that VPNs were initially developed to ensure that businesses could transfer sensitive data securely- and they still use it. Personal VPNs have gained popularity recently, but cooperate VPNs have been around for decades.

Furthermore, a criminal can use any technology to do illegal things, but as long as you are doing legal matters, you are safe.

VPN Slows Down the Connection Speed

It is a myth that is very common among VPN non-users. Although it can happen, it is not entirely true, and modern progress in tunneling protocols has increased connection speed. You should know that your internet provider determines your connection speed. So, when your connection speed is faster, VPN will perform better.

Another thing that determines the speed is location, remember VPNs connect you remotely to a server. So connection speed will depend on the location of the server you are using- the further it is, the slow the connection. You might experience this problem when you use a VPN provider that has many servers located around the globe.

As you consider getting a VPN, you should not believe in these myths. And as long as your intention of using VPN is legal, things such as; is using a VPN legal shouldn’t bother you. The most important thing you should do is ensure you protect yourself online.
